Jack's Cosmic Dogs

The beach in December? Absolutely!  As "new southerners", we believe that anything can become a reason to head to the beach for a long walk.  So, when the temperatures hovered near 70 degrees during Christmas break, it was a beach day.  A trip to Folly Beach became the itinerary.  The next question, of course, was where to eat.......Well, one of my favorite Christmas presents from Jeff, and I received many this year, was a new cookbook entitled "The Charleston Chef's Table" written by Holly Herrick, a local columnist, restaurant critic and Cordon Bleu-trained chef. Check out her site....  The book not only contains great recipes from local chefs all over Charleston for me to try and duplicate but it also has reviews for each of their restaurants.  For my family, it has become a guide book for where to eat in this incredible city!  So, we checked it out and discovered Jack's Cosmic Dogs on Folly Rd.  What fun and what a huge selection of creative hot dogs.  If you love hot dogs, you need to check out their menu at  The kids loved the retro setting and video games and Jeff couldn't resist a Cosmic Dog with their blue cheese slaw and sweet potato mustard.  They actually bottle and sell their condiments!  Aaron and I had some atomic dogs and loved their fries with chili and cheese....not a hugely health conscious meal to ring in the new year but a lot of fun!  How lucky are we to walk the beach during December?? Well, again, we ARE lucky but we are also grateful for making the decision to move and happy that our kids were adventurous enough to accept the challenge of making new friends and adjusting to new schools at ages 12, 14 and 15.  If you are going to be in our area, check out The Charleston Chef's Table before you get here and try the hot dogs at Jack's.....You won't want to leave, either!
