Caviar and Bananas

We went in for dessert and ended up staying a bit.  We watched college kids come and go using their campus food cards.  We saw older couples sit and chat and enjoy grilled wild Salmon and cheese boards and wine.  We saw the eccentric dash in for bagels and lox and another who "needed" 2 orders of eggplant parmigiana to go.  It was quite the scene at Caviar and Bananas and absolutely a place to "Indulge your Senses" as their website proclaims.

They offer services that I have yet to see throughout Charleston.  You can order gift baskets of their tasty treats, spices, herbs, wines, cheeses or other products to be delivered to hotels or guests staying in the city.  They also offer visitors a personal shopper to pick up whatever may be on their list.  Of course, they cater.  Dinner parties, business dinners, receptions, cocktail parties and the like or you can check out their "Gourmet-To-Go" menu and  stop by at the end of the day and take it home for an easy gourmet dinner with little preparation.

The shop is unique in all ways.....a coffee bar as you enter fills the room with delicious steam scented with vanilla, almond, and cream-espressos, macchiatos, frappes and many flavors of teas.  And, you can't walk by their pastry displays without stopping for something frosted and delicious.  Their back deli-like counter displays everything fresh and available at the moment.  We checked out wild Alaskan salmon, roasted beet salad, twice baked truffle potatoes, lobster cobb salad, roasted asparagus and even huge squares of bacon and four cheese mac' and cheese.  I only wished I had brought a second tummy!
We shared a dark chocolate brownie and a fudge cupcake topped with chocolate ganache.  And, they make a wonderful caramel macchiato!  After we finished people watching and indulging in desserts that equaled our lunch in calories, we checked out the rest of the shop.  Wire shelving fills the center of the store and holds their products for sale....spice rubs, mixes, herbs, candy, spreads, sodas, oil and vinegars, coffee, sea salts......Again, the perfect place to "Indulge Your Senses".
So, if you are looking for somewhere to sit a spell or people watch or share some wine and cheese, check out Caviar & Bananas.  I think the people of Charleston are grateful to have two New York City transplants cooking up delicious menus daily at 51 George Street.
