Shrimp at Bubba Gump's

It always takes us longer than we think and I hate being late!  We had an appointment in Charleston with a travel agent to listen to their "great deal" on joining a travel club.  We were really into the "two free tickets to anywhere in the U.S" because we are hoping to get to San Fransisco for an exploring, get-away this summer.  To make this rambling story short, we missed the 10 a.m. presentation and had to return at 1 p.m.  What to do in Charleston on a sunny Sunday?  Eat an early lunch.  We were only two blocks away from Bubba Gump's and had yet to dine with Forest since coming to the lowcountry.  So, that's where we headed for some shrimp last Sunday.

Entering Bubba Gump's is an experience in itself.  The Forest Gump trivia questions start flying.  Believe me when I say the waiters are well-versed in the movie.  My husband starts reciting movie lines and I begin thinking of my favorite type of animal protein....shrimp. I don't consider myself a vegetarian because of two things:  shrimp and bacon.  Weird, I guess.  Anyway, it was calling my name....popcorn shrimp, Cajun shrimp, Yin Yang Shrimp Salad, Mama Blues Charmed Fried Shrimp, Shrimp New Orleans, Shrimp and Grits, Shrimp & Veggie Skewers and even Lt. Dan's Drunken Shrimp.  Whatever you are looking for in the shrimp category can be found at Bubba Gump's.

Located on South Market Street, customers can eat inside or out and the restaurant is different than any of the ones we have eaten in so far.  There are 22 locations in the U.S. and we've been to 6 of them.  This one has a cluttered, country feel.  The restaurant walls are full of Forest Gump memorabilia and filming photos abound.  The movie was actually filmed in South Carolina so many of the photo shoots are actually local spots!  Pretty cool.  We were seated not too far from Forest's white movie suit.  It's a fun place to eat and we enjoyed some She-Crab soup, salads and a platter of fried shrimp, Cajun shrimp, peel and eats and hushpuppies.  I can't think of too many easier ways to spend two hours while waiting for a sales pitch.
The lunch was great.  The service okay.  The sales pitch was, well, a sales pitch but not a high pressure one which made turning it down in the end easier.  We ended up with tummies full of shrimp, two free tickets to anywhere and two free cruise tickets.  I guess we are not only heading two San Fran but to Mexico as well!  All in a day's work.....If you are looking for shrimp, go to Bubba Gump's and enjoy!
