We started with chef salads that were topped with a truly incredible poppyseed dressing. Will definitely be trying to recreate that sometime soon! While we ate our salads, our fondue pot was heating up the beer that was to become our cheddar cheese fondue.
Our waiter brought out our breads, broccoli, carrots, granny smith apples and then proceeded to add dry mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic and a mixture of cheeses to the hot pot. Before we had finished our salads, our cheese fondue was ready for dipping. It must be said that Stephan adores anything remotely resembling cheese so, this was a hit! Please, also note, that he is drinking ROOT beer!
Deciding on the next course was easy. We were already getting full so, dessert. I had already "quietly" told our waiter that it was a birthday dinner. So, while he was prepping our table for the chocolate fondue coming out, he brought out a few pieces of pound cake, pretzels, and cherries with a candle to celebrate. The chocolate fondue is THE best part of the meal besides the poppyseed salad dressing. Dipping cherries, pineapple, bananas, marshmallows, pretzels, and pound cake into a hot pot of melted chocolate is the way ALL birthday dinners should end. My thirteen year old was happy. And, it was a good ending to the first thirteen years. We simply hope that the next thirteen are just as great!!
