Black Bean Co.

I knew they existed.  I had even read their menu.  More than once.  I mentioned yesterday that I had a great lunch.  Remember that?  Well, it was here.  Black Bean Co. on Spring Street in Charleston.  Little did I know, they actually have another location on Folly Road.  Live and learn.
They consider the restaurant an "energy food restaurant" and rightly so.  The menu is great especially if you are into eating vegan, vegetarian, or just plain healthy!  Wraps, salads, power gyros, springers and energizers (soups and spring rolls), and coffees, lattes and cappuccinos.  The wraps come with a choice of sides: couscous, pasta salad or yogurt topped with homemade granola.

I really felt like skipping the wrap at that point and just trying all of the sides!

I didn't.  I lunched on an amazing Gouda Baby...Gouda cheese, chicken, roasted red peppers, local arugula, sprouts, basil oil, and Dijon mustard and a side of pasta salad.

It was that little cup of pasta salad that really made me smile.  First of all, I love pasta.  Hot, cold, dressed in oil or sauce or even butter.  Second, I adore balsamic vinegar and olives.  So, I think it was love at first taste!  Whole wheat pasta, kalamata olives, roasted red peppers, tomatoes and some oil and balsamic vinegar.  At least, that's what I tasted and it was delicious.  I will definitely return for that!

It's a quirky little space and just a couple of small tables but I didn't mind the cramped quarters a bit.  A glass of water flavored with fresh strawberries and lemons, a good lunch, followed by a vegan chocolate chip cookie and I was good to go.

I did say that it was tiny, right?  Well, if you aren't into hearing about the private lives of the customers at the next table, they DELIVER!  That makes it even better.  Order

One last thing.  80% of their fresh produce comes from Thackeray Farms.  Not only are they producing great, healthy meals but they are supporting our local agriculture as well.  Kudos to Black Bean Co.!  Visit them here:
