This place was one of those lucky finds. We were having, you know, the sort of day where you are hungry and looking for food. Right now. You don't have all day. And, it doesn't really matter what it is as long as it fills the empty spot. Like I said, we LUCKED OUT!
Juanita Greenberg's Nacho Royale is now one of our new favorites. In fact, we are hopeful to have a reason to travel to the Mount Pleasant area again very soon~just to eat here. Their menu is strictly mexican and nothing is over $7.00. If you are into any kind of mexican~nachos, burritos, tacos, or quesadillas~you need to check them out!
It is Mexican with a twist. I have never ordered a rice bowl from someplace with the word nacho in the name. Kind of seems like a contradiction. However, it worked. Brown rice, shredded chicken and black beans topped with cheese and salsa and warm and yummy.....
My soccer player of the day requested an order of nachos with chicken. However, he didn't read the description. So, when his nachos come on a single large tortilla and resembled a pizza, he raised his eyebrows and then.....he smiled before, during and after!
The mister ordered a steak burrito. It weighed over a pound. No lie! And, it was filled with steak, black beans, tomatoes, cilantro, salsa, monterey jack cheese, sour cream and lettuce. Needless to say, he didn't talk for the first ten minutes. It was huge and apparently, delicious. We did have a laugh as he read the directions on how to unwrap his monstrous burrito....
It is one of those places that we will return. Not in a year. Soon. Inside and outside dining and quirky artwork on all of the walls. Large screen tv's and interesting clientele-everyone from families, young guys yelling at the WVU game, kids, adults. It's a great choice for anyone who likes mexican food! And, if you go next week, the graffiti artist will have finished his incredible work on one of the outside dining areas. He was working as we left. Very cool!
If you are in Mount Pleasant or on King Street, you definitely need to stop at Juanita's for a very memorable lunch or dinner. We really loved it! Laid back. Quick. Great service. And, delicious rice bowls. Some days, you just can't ask for anything more. Happy Friday from Charleston Treasures!
