"My music is country, I'm just not sure which country." ~Col. Bruce Hampton
I love this quote. I don't know Col. Hampton but what I do know is that the world is huge. And, I love to eat from the world. We eat meals from more countries than anyone we know. I love it! Some nights, my kids hear....Tonight, it's Japanese. Or, Thai. Or, Indian. Maybe, Italian.....tonight it was the mister and the grill with steaks and A LOT of veggies. But, in our house, you just never know.
I love the fact that at least twice a week, our dinners are from "somewhere else". My middle son is not quite so sure.....
Last week, the mister and I were seriously in the mood for Cuban food. We had heard about El Bohio and then, a few days after we discussed it, I discovered it here. Fate? Destiny? I don't know but thanks, Holly!
El Bohio is located on Maybank Highway in Charleston and it has been in the same spot since 2005. Alex and Vanessa Harris opened it along with The Pour House, a dance club next door, after realizing that the city needed some true Cuban food. They definitely had a great idea. And, they recycle and compost. Good for the city and the tummy!
The mister and I were there for an early lunch....an appetizer of Adobo Lime Shrimp could have easily been our lunch. Grilled shrimp and sweet bread topped with a spicy hot sauce.
The entire atmosphere is brilliant. Bright colors. Loud music. Comfy. The kind of place that you pull up a chair and sit for hours nursing something icy and cold. Live music. Truly laid back. We felt like we were out of the country for a while...
Wishful thinking on that out of the country part. We are already looking for some sweet deals for summer. That's another post. Our lunches were great! A traditional Cuba with black beans for me. Roasted pork, sliced turkey, swiss cheese, pickles and yellow mustard. This is such a delicious combination.....melty cheese, pickles and mustard always work for me.
The mister thoroughly enjoyed a Media Noche and fries.....similar to my Cuban except it came on sweet bread instead of fresh Cuban bread.
