Five Loaves Cafe

It's Saturday!  It is definitely time to decompress.  We have some music things going all throughout the day so, I thought I would share this before we get too crazy.

Are you looking for somewhere quaint?  Some "real" food?  Somewhere tucked into a quiet street corner?  The sort of place that makes you believe you are in someone's kitchen?  This is it...

Five Loaves Cafe.

This homey eatery is located on Canon Street~an area we are still getting to know but the menu is fantastic!  Homemade mozzarella.  In-house roasted meats for incredible sandwiches.  Lots of vegetarian options.  Great soups.  Grass fed, hormone free beef.  In-house made salad dressings. Free range and all natural chicken.  Authentic, real food.

The name of the restaurant is a definite bible reference but it also refers to the great sandwiches that they prepare.  The mister's order~Peppercorn and Coriander Hormone Free Rare Roast Beef Sandwich topped with horseradish mayo, honey grain mustard, smoked provolone, lettuce, tomato and onion.  Just the name sounds delicious, right?  He also had a cup of Tomato Tarragon Soup.

The specials of the day are posted on the walls but they really don't do justice to the creative dishes.  I totally devoured some Potato, Broccoli and Cheddar soup with a plate of mixed greens topped with eggplant fritters (incredible!), goat cheese and grilled asparagus.  I am always grateful for well-planned  vegetarian options!

I regret that I don't have any pictures of our beautiful lunches but we were at the communal table in back and I felt odd snapping away while others were eating.  You will have to take my word on the fact that this food is completely fresh and beautifully prepared.

I leave you with one photo of their windows.  Odd?  Check it out.  I told you it was quaint.  Unique.  Eclectic.

If you are shopping away your Saturday, at some point, you will be ready for lunch.  This restaurant should definitely be a part of your Saturday afternoon!

  1. Thanks for the review and photos. Since we will be in Charleston in Feb and March, I'm starting a list of restaurants, cafes, and places to visit. Keep 'em coming!

  2. One of my favorites as well. Always fresh and tasty.
