HOM and a Divine Appetizer!!

Have you ever eaten something that has really stuck in your head?  Something that you wish you could recreate in your own kitchen?  This was my stick-in-your-head dish.  It appeared at our table at HOM....

HOM.  It's a burger joint.  Okay.  It goes a bit beyond burger joint.  They call themselves a burger boutique and have a ping-pong lounge.  How cool is that?  This is the kind of place that my guys would love.  Really love.

The dish above was a special of the day and the chef sent it out because just a few days prior, I had toured his kitchen and talked with him about all of his homemade sauces.  Pretty incredible stuff.  This appetizer was melt-in-your-mouth pork, bbq style on flatbread and topped with some spicy arugla.  Rocket lettuce.

Here's the thing.  I don't even eat meat!  I haven't for nearly two years and when this dish arrived, I couldn't help myself.  The smell alone was divine.  Totally returning there soon and hoping this is on the menu.

The mister and I stopped on a Friday afternoon when we were downtown on the way to a meeting.  It wasn't hopping busy because it was still pretty early but the service was great.  No complaints here.  We were happy campers.  And, I was nearly stuffed by the time my dinner arrived.

I ordered a Quinoa Parmesan Burger~ground tempeh and quinoa, parmesan, with sun-dried tomatoes, rosemary tomato jam and some balsamic arugula.  I also had an order of sweet potato fingerlings tossed in roasted garlic and truffled herb aioli and blue cheese.  Yes.  They were as good as the description makes them sound.  However, I took most of them home with me and Aaron had them for a midnight snack after closing the restaurant.

The mister ordered The Max.

Two beef patties, bacon jam, max's red sauce, cheddar, pickled onions and lettuce.  Add an order of fries and a cold beer and he was happy, too.  It's a fun place.  You should check it out.  You should also bring me an order of whatever that special appetizer is called.  I would love you for it!

So, when the ice melts and the cars thaw, make a trip to HOM.  It's located right on King Street and you will be so glad you did!  Stay warm.  Stay safe.  And, have a good evening.  Happy Wednesday from Charleston Treasures!
